The 2021 CHL Import Draft gets underway over at CHL.ca on Wednesday, June 30 at 11:00am ET, with Ontario Hockey League clubs set to select third in the rotation of CHL regional leagues.

The OHL’s order of CHL Import Draft selection was determined by way of a draft lottery held back in May. Teams are selecting in inverse order of their placement for the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. OHL clubs will be picking in a snake format, with the order of selection for the first round reversed to start the second.

The Barrie Colts hold the third overall pick, looking to bring in another gem from abroad as they did with the first overall pick in 2017 when they added eventual OHL Rookie of the Year and present-day Carolina Hurricanes star Andrei Svechnikov.

The last time an OHL club selected third overall, the Sudbury Wolves picked a future Finnish World Junior gold medalist, OHL Goaltender of the Year and Red Tilson Tropy recipient Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen who broke into the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres this past season.

Unlike past editions of the Import Draft, this year’s version will take place prior to the annual NHL Draft that won’t be held until July 23-24, 2021.

Follow along pick-by-pick at CHL.ca, or track the OHL’s social accounts at Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for full coverage. A complete recap will be posted here at ontariohockeyleague.com following the Draft’s conclusion.
