The offseason hasn’t even begun for some NHL teams, but for the Detroit Red Wings, it’s well underway. A sign of that is their most recent transaction.
On Saturday, the Red Wings signed Taro Hirose to a two-year contract extension. The financial details have not been disclosed. The forward has been with the organization since signing as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State in 2019.
In that time, Hirose has bounced between the Red Wings and their AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids. Since going pro, Hirose has four goals and 16 assists in 57 games with the Red Wings. As a member of the Griffins, Hirose has 108 points over three seasons. Last season, Hirose tied for second on the Griffins’ roster with 53 points in 59 games.
