Spirit secure I-75 Divide Cup with win over Firebirds – Ontario Hockey League

  • Rookie defenceman Zayne Parekh was named first star as the Spirit won their fifth game against the Firebirds this season, capturing the coveted I-75 Divide Cup
  • Parekh scored twice inside 16 seconds in the second period: amongst U17 defencemen only Rick Corriveau (19) and Aaron Ekblad (17) have ever scored more goals than the Spirit first-round pick (16)
  • Exceptional status recipient Michael Misa scored the game-winner and added two assists to reach the 50-point mark
  • Leafs prospect Braeden Kressler scored a Goal of the Year candidate, lifting the puck over the goalie’s shoulder from his stomach
  • Saginaw ended an eight-game losing slide, earning their first win since Jan. 6th to improve to 25-18-2-0
  • Flint drops a third straight decision, falling to 22-22-2-1

  • OHL Performer of the Night Matvey Petrov moved into the league-scoring lead with a one-goal, three-assist effort as the Battalion moved into a tie with the 67’s atop the league standings
  • Dalyn Wakely enjoyed his fourth two-goal night of the season
  • Kraken prospect Kyle Jackson provided a goal and two assists
  • Nikita Tarasevich assisted three of the five Battalion goals
  • Ethan Larmand scored the lone goal for the Wolves
  • Kevyn Brassard robbed Ty Nelson in the Save of the Night
  • Kocha Delic and Quentin Musty both remained out of the Sudbury lineup with injuries while David Goyette served a suspension
