ELMIRA, N.Y. —Â Awards week continued on social media Wednesday afternoon, as the Elmira College Department of Athletics unveiled another round of winners on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
For the second year in a row, awards will be revealed virtually rather than an in-person presentation. Despite the challenges, such as squeezing all three sports seasons into a condensed three-and-a-half-month window between February and May, playing the majority of games without fans in the stands, and a strict COVID-19 testing policy, the crowning of the 2020-21 honorees marks the 51st annual celebration hosted by the Department of Athletics. As tradition goes, the best and brightest will once again be commemorated for their achievements in the classroom and competition.
Winners will be revealed via social media on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter throughout the afternoon and evening. At the conclusion of each day’s announcements, fans, friends, and family can visit athletics.elmira.edu for a recap of the daily awards.
Today, EC announced released a bevy of individual award winners, headlined by the Lowman Award, Wayne Moschetti ’73 Memorial Award, Margaret Locke Citizenship Award, and the Ellen Gibbs Matson Athletic Award. Booster Club Players of the Year from the winter varsity sports were also announced.
Margaret Locke Citizenship Award: Farrah Fiacco ’21
The Margaret Locke Citizenship Award is presented to an upper-class student-athlete who demonstrates participation, especially leadership, or other outstanding qualities in campus activities and volunteer community service. Although the women’s wrestling program had its inaugural season put on hold due to COVID-19, Farrah Fiacco ’21 made the most of her time at Elmira College. Fiacco has volunteered to help local community members complete their taxes through the Southern Tier CA$H Program, reads books to children at her local library during the summer, is a peer tutor on campus, and participates in numerous other campus organizations.
