NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs are pleased to announce the commitment of Matthew Humphries to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
“We welcome Matthew and his family to the Niagara Region. Matthew is a very athletic and competitive Goaltender. In the net; he moves well, is technically sound, tracks pucks properly and covers a lot of the net”, noted Interim GM Wes Consorti.
Humphries, a 6’2 and 181 lbs goaltender played his U16 season with the Markham Majors U16 AAA, teaming up with IceDogs first round pick, Braidy Wassilyn. Humphries was the second goalie taken off the board in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection being selected in the 3rd round, 44th overall by the IceDogs.
Director of Goaltending, Adam Munro on Matthew Humphries, “Matthew is quite possibly the closest to OHL ready goalie in the draft. A big goalie who fills the net well and battles hard. He’s got really good reads on situational plays and can handle the puck well. Very excited to begin working with him and see him develop into a top end starter”.
Humphries describes his game as, “A big guy, I definitely use my size to my advantage and I feel like I can move really well. Definitely one of the best parts of my game is my puck playing. I like to look at myself as a sixth defenceman out there”.
