The draft pick the Canucks acquired originally was owned by the Ottawa Senators.
This move comes as a shock, as there were seemingly no trade rumors surrounding Podkolzin. The Oilers are in the midst of a significant decision regarding two of their young players, Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, who were offer sheeted by the St. Louis Blues.
“We would like to thank Vasily for his time here with the Canucks,” Canucks GM Patrik Allvin said. “Podz put in a lot of work both on and off the ice and we wish him all the best in Edmonton.”
Podkolzin played 137 games for the Vancouver Canucks. He spent most of the 23-24 season in the AHL with Abbotsford. In 19 games in the NHL last season, Podkolzin managed two assists. He was a plus-one in two postseason games.
Podkolzin signed a two-year extension in April.
