Canadiens: David Reinbacher Will Soon Be Back in Town

by admin

David Reinbacher will be very busy in the coming weeks. From August 29 to September 1, he will be in Bratislava for the Olympics qualifiers. There, Austria will take on Slovakia, Kazakhstan and Hungary in the hope of booking its spot for the 2026 Olympics in Milano Cortina .

Then it will be time for the youngster to head back to Montreal for both the rookie camp and the main camp. Even though he has limited experience on this side of the pond, he played 11 games with the Laval Rocket in the AHL last season, his goal is still to make the opening night roster.

While the blueline is still somewhat crowded in Montreal, GM Kent Hughes got rid of two defensemen this Summer, sending Jonathan Kovacevic to the New Jersey Devils and Jordan Harris to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the most talked about trade in Montreal since the Subban-Weber deal.

Hughes wouldn’t confirm he did it to allow some young defensemen to graduate but he did say he didn’t want to have to send anyone down to Laval if they had earned the right to play for the big club following training camp.

If Reinbacher got off to a rocky start with the Montreal fans when he was picked fifth-overall by the Canadiens at the 2023 draft (most were hoping Hughes and co. would opt for a forward), a lot of water has flowed under the bridges since then. Those who still held a grudge about his selection have been appeased by the selection of Ivan Demidov at this year’s draft and now, by the acquisition of Patrik Laine.

The young defenseman should be very busy this Fall, but there’s already a signing session on his calendar. He’ll be in Candiac on Friday September 6 from 6 p.m. to sign autographs for fans at Collect Edition, one of the best card shops Greater Montreal has to offer. Details have yet to be published about pricing, but you can follow their Facebook page for any update.
