Barber’s Two-Goal Night Leads Soaring Eagles Past Vikings, 5-1

SALEM, MASS. – The Elmira College women’s ice hockey program used the momentum from a three-goal second period to record a 5-1 victory in NEHC action on Friday against the Salem State Vikings. Savannah Barber ’28 paced Elmira with a pair of goals in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Barber broke a scoreless tie at the 7:59 mark of the first period with her second goal of the season. Annie Audet ’28 and Bri Conger ’27 assisted on Barber’s first tally of the night for the Purple & Gold.
  • Elmira doubled its advantage at the 5:47 mark of the second period as Sabrina Shvartsman ’25 found the back of the net to make it 2-0. McKenzie Schmidt ’25 would set up the goal for the Soaring Eagles.
  • The Soaring Eagles would strike later in the period with a pair of power play goals as Emily Lenzen ’24 made it 3-0 at the 10:06 mark, while Barber netted her second goal to make it 4-0 at the 14:47 mark.
  • Salem State tallied a power play goal of its own at the 19:07 mark to break up the shutout bid for the Soaring Eagles. Anna Lugge ’27 closed the scoring for Elmira with a tally at the 7:35 mark of the third period.
  • Elmira goalkeeper Emily Finach ’25 finished the contest with 13 saves on 14 shots by the Vikings to record the win for the Soaring Eagles. Elmira finished the contest with a 67-14 advantage in shots and won 49 faceoffs.
