Sheffield Steelers have moved quickly to secure the services of Finnish netminder Jere Huhtamaa as they battle an ongoing goalie crisis.
With injuries to both Matt Greenfield and Marco De-Filippo, the goaltending issue became a priority for head coach Aaron Fox.
He has turned to 24-year-old Huhtamaa, who arrives at the club from Liiga side Sport, where he has been struggling for game time.
Huhtamaa flew into Sheffield on Monday and made his debut during last night’s 6-3 defeat to Elite League leaders Cardiff Devils.
“Jere is a big and athletic goalie that plays an aggressive, modern style,” Steelers head coach Aaron Fox said.
“He’s looking to come in and make an immediate impact in our group, especially with our current injuries.
“Jere was currently under contract in Liiga but not getting the game time he was hoping for, so we are happy that his team has allowed him to pursue this opportunity.
“He’s excited for this opportunity to come to a team with winning aspirations and help us achieve our goals.”
