Anson Carter thinks that the Leafs are playing playoff hockey in the regular season: Leafs Morning Take

by

I still have no idea what I witnessed on Tuesday night in New Jersey.

All I know is that the Leafs won, and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

I think.

At any rate, we kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by giving our quick thoughts on the game before talking about the Biz Nasty security videos a bit, too. It was wild to see some video of the Scottsdale altercation. Incredibly, Biz was able to hold his own against SIX grown men. Why didn’t anyone step in to help? Ridiculous.

After that, we broke down the interesting 2-1 OT win in Newark. Auston Matthews, who had five breakaways on the night, did the honours with his ninth of the campaign and Anthony Stolarz made 38 saves. Somehow some way, despite being outshot 39-16, Toronto found a way to get the job done. Honestly, it was a minor miracle. Furthermore, we talked about Matthews’ game and where it’s at right now. We also gave some love to Pontus Holmberg and Connor Dewar, who combined to tie the game in the third period. If you’re keeping score at home, the Leafs are now 2-0-0 against Sheldon Keefe. He’s slated to make his return to Scotiabank Arena on January 16th.

Meantime, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, NHL on TNT Analyst Anson Carter dropped by the show. The Scarborough native dished on Stolarz’s brilliance, Craig Berube’s early impact, and Auston Matthews’ game thus far this season. Additionally, he shared a really cool story about almost becoming a Leaf. Apparently, it was between him and Eric Lindros, and Toronto – of course – chose the Big E.
