NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs are pleased to announce that 28th overall pick, Artem Frolov, has committed to play for the Niagara IceDogs.
The 6’0, 184 pound left-handed shot defenceman is a native of Volgograd, Russia but has spent the last two seasons in North America playing for the Vaughan Kings in the GTHL. Through 49 games this season with the Kings Frolov potted nine goals to go along with 22 assists for a total of 31 points.
IceDogs Owner and GM Darren DeDobbelaer had this to say about Frolov, “Artem is a big addition to our team, he is physically mature and ready to compete at this level. Artem’s skating and puck movement abilities will allow him to immediately adapt to the OHL. Artem plugs a large hole in our back end after losing 3 overage D.”
Frolov enjoyed team success on a myriad of levels this past season as his Vaughan Kings did the improbable of reaching the OHL Cup final as a wild card team. The IceDogs also added Frolov’s Vaughan teammate, Ivan Galiyanov, in the 4th round, 68th overall.
Frolov will sport the #26 jersey this upcoming season for the IceDogs.
