Thursday’s meeting between Germany and Denmark at the IIHF men’s World Hockey Championship was delayed for nearly two hours due to a fire inside the Helsinki Ice Hall.
The game was supposed to begin at 9:20 AM ET, but a fire outside of the player dressing rooms forced everyone inside the building to evacuate outside.
The game will resume at 11:00 AM ET, with the second game of the day â Canada vs. Kazakhstan â getting moved from 1:20 PM ET to 2:00 PM.
The Denmark/Germany meeting is an important one for both teams, with both sitting at a 2-0-0-1 record with six points apiece. The winner will put themselves in a good spot to make the four-team quarterfinal in Group A, with Switzerland and Canada holding a perfect record.
