In the Cards: Ben Stelter’s Inspiring Hockey Card

by

Ben Stelter is a five-year-old Oilers fan who is battling glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.

On March 24, the Oilers invited Ben to participate in the team’s pre-game skate. He was later named “Player of the Game” and was invited to hang out in the Oilers locker room afterward.

A month later, Upper Deck made Ben his own “Heroic Inspirations” card, picturing him with his hero, Connor McDavid, on the front, and detailing Ben’s battle with cancer on the back. The first 2,000 fans in attendance at the Oilers game on April 28 also received a copy of Ben’s card.

However, many of the cards quickly ended up on eBay and were selling for upwards of $200. To give more fans a chance to own Ben’s card, and to raise money for a great cause, Upper Deck sold Ben’s card on its e-Pack platform for $9.70, with net proceeds going to the Kids With Cancer Society.
