Seven in a row, baby!
Tyler Bertuzzi became the first player in franchise history to notch a hat-trick on his birthday as the Leafs outlasted the Avalanche 4-3 on Saturday night at Ball Arena. He’s arrived.
Also, thank you, Ridly Greig.
We kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing the big Joseph Woll news. After making 36 stops in a 4-1 win for the Marlies on Friday night in Laval, the 25-year-old was recalled from his AHL conditioning stint on Monday morning. Now, it will be up to Sheldon Keefe to decide when Woll will make his official return to the Leafs’ crease.
Presented by Door Dash, The Appetizer went more in-depth on Saturday night’s thriller in Denver. Of course, Bertuzzi was the big story, but the Leafs also got monster efforts from others —including Mitch Marner and Ilya Samsonov. Incredibly, this is Toronto’s longest win streak in the Auston Matthews era, which is nuts when you really think about it. What a road trip!
Meantime, courtesy Douglas, we previewed Toronto’s five-game homestand. Over the next week or so, they’ll welcome Vegas, Arizona, the New York Rangers, Boston, and Buffalo to Scotiabank Arena. The Leafs are currently 15-10-2 at home this season as opposed to 18-6-6 on the road. Suffice it is to say, it’s been a mixed bag on home ice thus far. Thankfully, they have plenty of time to fix that before the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Lastly, thanks to Charm Diamond Centres, we discussed the Leafs putting a ring on Easton Cowan. Over the weekend, Toronto’s 2023 first round pick extended his OHL point streak to a whopping 26 games. That’s the longest recorded streak in London Knights franchise history. When taking into account the illustrious history of that organization, that’s a pretty impressive feat. That kid is the real deal.
Anthony Stewart will fill in for Jay Rosehill on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM as we preview the opener of Toronto’s five-game homestand. Vegas is in town as the Leafs look to extend their win streak to eight games.
