PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Powered by a pair of first-period power-play goals from Madi Morton ’24, the No. 14 Elmira College women’s ice hockey program recorded a 4-0 shutout victory on Saturday against the University of Southern Maine in a New England Hockey Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Huskies would take a penalty less than a minute into action to put the Soaring Eagles on the power play. With the extra-skater, Morton would take a feed from Emma Bradbury ’26 and fire a slapshot that would beat the goalkeeper at the 40-second mark to make it 1-0.
- Another power-play opportunity later in the first period for the Purple & Gold allowed Morton to deliver her second goal of the frame with another slapshot that would find the back of the net. Claire Meeder ’23 added her second assist of the contest for Elmira, while Holley Riva ’23 notched an assist.
- The lone tally of the second period would come with just under five minutes left to play as Sabrina Shvartsman ’25 went top shelf into an empty net for the Soaring Eagles to notch her first goal of the season to make it 3-0. Meeder recorded her third assist of the contest after applying the initial pressure in the crease.
- Riva would increase the Elmira advantage to 4-0 at the 6:05 mark of the third period after taking a pass from Emily Lenzen ’24. The Soaring Eagles finished the contest with a 57-12 edge in shots on goal and were dominant once again in the faceoff circle, going 52-for-66.
- Chloe Beaubien ’23 registered 12 saves to notch her first shutout and improve to 2-0-0 on the season for the Soaring Eagles. Beaubien recorded six saves in the second period and five in the third period after facing just one shot through the opening 20 minutes.
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles will be back in action on November 21st with a nationally ranked contest against SUNY Cortland at the Murray Athletic Center. Puck drop between the Soaring Eagles and Red Dragons is scheduled for 2:00 P.M.
