NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs are pleased to announce the commitment of Nicholas Frasca to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
“Niagara welcomes Nicholas to the IceDog family. Nicholas shows high IQ on both sides of the puck and plays a very calm game on the back end. He also gets pucks to the net at a very good rate. We are excited for his development here in Niagara,” noted Interim GM Wes Consorti.
Frasca, a native of Caledon, ON was selected in the 3rd round, 56th overall by the IceDogs out of the Toronto Marlboros U16 AAA in the GTHL. Across 61 games the 6’1 and 175 lbs defenceman produced 7 goals and 23 assists for 30 points. He added four points in six playoff games while helping secure his Marlboros team a spot in the OHL Cup.
“I am honoured to be signing with the Niagara IceDogs, it’s truly a dream come true,” said Frasca.
Frasca comes from a strong hockey bloodline, being the fourth Frasca brother to be drafted into the OHL. His oldest brother, Jordan, spent five years in the OHL and now plays in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. Meanwhile, second oldest, Jacob just finished his OHL career with the Soo Greyhounds and Gabriel, the third oldest, is a current member of the Kingston Frontenacs and a prospect for the 2024 NHL Draft.
“Good all around defenceman, plays offence, plays defence,” Consorti said. “Good teammate who comes from a good program. His brothers are good hockey players, good lineage, so just to have someone come in and be part of what we’re doing, it’s always a good day.”
