It promises to be an emotional occasion at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday night as Nottingham Panthers prepare to retire the #47 jersey worn by Adam Johnson.
Johnson tragically lost his life on the ice in October last year.
The club will retire his iconic jersey ahead of Saturday’s Elite League fixture against Fife Flyers, with members of Johnson’s family in attendance on the night.
Retirement ceremony schedule
The retirement ceremony will begin at 6:30pm, with doors opening one hour before.
The ceremony will be immediately followed by the warm-ups, ahead of a 7:30pm face-off.
“A very special occasion”
Nottingham Panthers have confirmed that less than 800 tickets remain for Saturday’s tribute, with a sell-out expected.
A club statement read: “This will be a very special occasion as we come together to remember Adam and his contribution not just for ice hockey across the world, but who he was as a person and the positive impact he had on so many people he met.”
Johnson joined the Panthers in August 2023 and went on to make 12 appearances for the club.
He previously played in four of the world’s best leagues, including in the NHL with Pittsburgh Penguins.
Back in October, teams across the Elite League came together to remember the one-year anniversary of Johnson’s death with a 47-second applause, in recognition of his jersey number.
