The year is 2024. The date is February 4th. And we have the pleasure of reporting that Auston Matthew, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and Morgan Rielly have won a championship game inside of Scotiabank Arena.
This, of course, translates to the news that Team Matthews won two of two games to take the 2024 NHL All Star game over team Team McDavid. What, did you think we were talking about something else?
Captained by Matthews, coached by Jim Montgomery, his son and some guy named Justin Bieber, and led by some strong performances from Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat and Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg, Team Matthews first edged Team Hughes with a 6-5 shootout victory to advance to the all-star game. There, Matthews scored two goals and added an assist to help take the win and the $1 million prize. He was one of four players on his team to register three points in the final, along with DeBrincat, Mat Barzal, and Clayton Keller.

Marner scored a goal in each of Team Matthews’ two games, with Nylander and Rielly each tallying a point in the final game. The aforementioned Keller, noted friend of Matthews, displayed some noticeable chemistry with his pal in the final game, leading to a flurry of Leafs fans to call for a trade.

Matthews called Toronto “the best hockey city in the world” earlier in the day, and Marner echoed his sentiments, getting interrupted by the cheers of fans when talking about how special it was to be able to put on a show for the hometown crowd.
With the weekend’s festivities wrapping up today, the Maple Leafs will be back in regular season action when they host the New York Islanders at home on Monday.
