Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa 67’s announced Thursday that 17-year-old defenceman Thomas Sirman has committed to the team.

Selected in the third round (6oth overall) by the Barber Poles in the in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, Sirman is coming to Ottawa to make an impact on the blue line.

“Thomas is a smooth skating defenceman who moves the puck effectively up the ice. His competitive nature, combined with his skill set will make Thomas a welcome addition to our blue line,” said Ottawa 67’s GM James Boyd.

Sirman is a 5-foot-10, 173 pound left-shot defenceman from Aurora, Ontario.  He collected a goal and 14 assists in 32 games during the 2019-20 season with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, before notching two goals and seven assists for nine points in 11 playoff games.  Fun fact, Thomas’s older brother, Will, played two games for the 67’s in the 2018-2019 season.

According to Jan Egert, 67’s Assistant GM & Director of Scouting, the young defenceman is also known to be quite the leader on and off the ice.

“Thomas has a mature approach to everything he does. He’s well-spoken, articulate and he knows what he wants. He knows how to make people around him feel comfortable. When we watch him play, it’s the leadership qualities on and off the ice. When the boat starts rocking, he’s the one who brings it back. He knows what he expects of himself and he focuses on that,” said Egert.
