PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College women’s ice hockey program officially got back into the win column on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles built a 2-0 advantage and held on for a 2-1 victory against the University of Southern Maine Huskies at the Murray Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both sides successfully killed a power play opportunity in the first period, as Elmira would hold a 14-1 advantage in shots to end the opening period of action.
- The Soaring Eagles had a pair of power play opportunities in the second period but would be unable to convert against the Huskies. Elmira finally broke through on the scoreboard at the 15:14 mark, as Mo McBride ’27 netted her first goal of the season to make it 1-0.
- Elmira delivered a quick strike to open the third period as Alayna Toole ’26 beat the Southern Maine goalkeeper at the 1:39 mark to give the Purple & Gold a 2-0 advantage over the Huskies.
- The Huskies cashed in on their third power play opportunity of the contest later in the third period as Ally Stymiest trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with a shot from the goal line that found the back of the net.
- In her home debut for Elmira, Sara Sevcikova ’28 notched her second win for the Purple & Gold as she finished the contest with eight saves. The Soaring Eagles held a 47-9 advantage in shots to go along with a 42-17 margin in faceoff wins.
