Guelph, ON – The Guelph Storm Hockey Club announced today that overage centreman Cooper Walker has been named captain of the club for the 2022-23 season, making him the 31st captain in franchise history. Walker will be joined by Assistant Captains Ben McFarlane, Danny Zhilkin, and Braeden Bowman.

“Cooper is someone that exemplifies what it is to be a Guelph Storm hockey player,” said Storm Head Coach, Chad Wiseman. “You know what you are getting every day when Cooper shows up to the rink. He plays the game the right way, has tremendous on and off ice habits, and leads by example daily for his peers.”

The 2002-born Walker is currently in his fourth OHL season with the club where he has recorded 18 goals, 28 assists for 46 points in 117 games. The veteran centreman was originally drafted in the 5th round, 91st overall by the Storm in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. The Cambridge, Ontario native attended Calgary Flames training camp this fall.

“It is truly an honour to be named captain of the Storm,” said Walker. “There have been so many great leaders here in the past and I have been lucky enough to learn from them. We have an awesome group of guys this year and I am excited for what this season holds!”

You can see Cooper Walker and the Guelph Storm back in action this Friday at the Sleeman Centre as your Storm take on the Saginaw Spirit at for our annual Pink the Rink game presented by Mark Wilson’s Better Used cars. Puck drop is 7:30pm.
