AUSTIN, Texas – For just the fifth time in program history, and the first since 2022, an Elmira College women’s ice hockey player has earned Academic All-American honors from College Sports Communicators® (CSC), as announced on July 16. Madi Morton ’24 was recently named to the CSC Academic All-American At-Large Second Team, after earning Academic All-District honors last month.

Morton joins Eliza Beaudin ’22, Katie Granato ’19, Ari Smith ’18, and Sarah Hughson ’18 as the individuals to receive the prestigious award, while she joins Martin Harguindey from the Elmira College men’s soccer team as those to earn the honor during the 2023-24 academic year.

A four-year defender on the National runner-up women’s ice hockey team from the 2023-24 season, Morton recently graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Psychology & Human Services. On the ice, Morton was a part of two NCAA Final Four appearances with the Soaring Eagles (2022 & 2024), was a 2024 CCM/AHCA First Team All-American on defense, a two-time NEHC All-Conference First Team honoree, an NEHC Third Team honoree in 2021, and a three-time All-Tournament selection between the UCHC and NEHC.

Off the ice, Morton was also most recently named the recipient of the 2023-24 Empire 8 Co-Woman of the Year award. Additionally, she was the recipient of the Elmira College Outstanding Female Career and Female Athlete of the Year in 2024, and is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa, Psi Chi, and Phi Eta Sigma. A two-time CSC Academic All-District selection, she is a four-time recipient of the AHCA All-Academic Scholar award, and a three-time NEHC All-Academic recipient.

For Division III, of the 47 student-athletes on the Division III at-large teams, 15 finished with a 4.00 cumulative GPA. The 16 first team members had a cumulative 3.96 GPA.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division III Academic All-America® program.
