ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira College Women’s Ice Hockey head coach Greg Haney has announced the addition of Jimmy Poreda as Assistant Coach to his coaching staff ahead of the 2024-25 season. Poreda joins the Purple & Gold with an impressive background as a professional goaltender in Finland, the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and the American Hockey League (AHL) for the last four years.
“We’re extremely excited to welcome Jimmy to Elmira!”, said Haney. “Jimmy’s loyalty and ability to build relationships, coupled with his knowledge of the game makes him a perfect fit for our program and campus-community.”
A goaltender in his playing career, Poreda makes the transition to coaching after appearing in 77 games over his four-year professional career. Poreda spent the majority of his pro career playing in Orlando in the ECHL and Knoxville and Macon in the SPHL.

Prior to his time in the professional ranks, Poreda spent four seasons at Plattsburgh State (NCAA Division III) where he was a three-time American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholar. On the ice, Poreda assembled a stellar freshman campaign for the Cardinals during the 2017-18 season, earning D3hockey.com National Men’s Team of the Week honors (Feb. 21), SUNYAC Goalie of the Week (Feb. 19), and SUNYAC Rookie of the Week (Feb. 5). In all, Poreda played a total of 914:59 minutes during the season, recording a .915 save percentage and a 2.69 goals-against average for the year.
During his sophomore season (2018-19), Poreda was honored four times with SUNYAC Goaltender of the Week accolades, and was named twice to the D3hockey.com National Men’s Team of the Week selection (periods ending Nov. 11, Feb. 17). His .935 save percentage would rank 12th nationally amongst qualified players.
In his junior season (2019-20), he was Named PrestoSports SUNYAC Men’s Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week four times and made 30+ saves in a game on six different occasions throughout the season, including a 37 save performance against Brockport in the opening round of the SUNYAC Tournament. Additionally, Poreda was one of thirteen nominees for the 2020 Hockey Humanitarian Award.
His senior season was spent playing professional hockey in Finland due to COVID-19 canceling the SUNYAC season.
