Goleniak Pots Four Goals as Soaring Eagles Blank NEC on Saturday

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Erika Goleniak ’25 became just the seventh different player to score four goals in a game for the Elmira College women’s ice hockey team as the Soaring Eagles recorded a 12-0 victory against New England College on Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 3:13 mark as Emily Lenzen ’24 took a shot from the top of the zone off a pass from Sabrina Shvartsman ’25 to give the Soaring Eagles a 1-0 lead.
  • Sophie Compeau ’25 added to the Elmira advantage with a goal at the 7:00 mark, while Abby Eselunas ’28 netted her first collegiate goal for the Soaring Eagles at the 8:11 mark to make it 3-0. Erika Goleniak ’25 and MK Boyle ’26 closed the scoring in the first period for the Purple & Gold.
  • Goleniak netted her second goal of the contest just 35 seconds into the second period to make it 6-0. McKenzie Schmidt ’25 followed with her first goal of the contest to make it 7-0, while Goleniak completed her hat trick at the 15:43 mark. Shvartsman closed the scoring in the second period with a tally at the 18:28 mark.
  • Goleniak opened the third period with her fourth goal of the contest to give the Soaring Eagles a 10-0 lead at the 4:32 mark. Schmidt followed with her second goal of the contest, while Alayna Toole notched her first goal of the contest to give Elmira a 12-0 lead.
  • Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 recorded her second shutout of the weekend after stopping 11 shots for Elmira. Lugge finished the contest with four assists, while Gaby Matson ’28 added three helpers for the Purple & Gold.

 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles hit the road for a pair of NEHC contests next weekend against the Salem State University Vikings. Friday’s contest is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. puck drop.
