PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – A two-goal third period propelled the No. 7 Elmira College women’s ice hockey program to a 3-1 victory against the No. 14 Norwich University Cadets in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action on Friday from the Murray Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Elmira got off to a quick start as Gaby Matson ’28 gave the Purple & Gold a 1-0 lead at the 1:36 mark of the first period. Matson’s first collegiate goal was set up by MK Boyle ’26, who found Matson streaking to the front of the net.
- With 17:40 remaining in the first period, the Murray Athletic Center went dark as local power crews worked to restore a power plant that had experienced a fire on Thursday afternoon. The delay lasted roughly 30 minutes before both teams returned to the ice.
- Norwich tallied the lone goal of the second period to knot the score 1-1 with just over 40 seconds remaining as Madison Anderson found an opening from the left side of the net. Rylie McIntyre would be credited with the assist for the Cadets.
- Erika Goleniak ’25 gave the Purple & Gold a 2-1 lead just over 11 minutes into the third period as she found the loose puck in the middle of a battle in front of the Norwich goalkeeper. Matson was credited with the first assist after playing the puck initially, while Annie Audet ’28 notched her first collegiate assist.
- Norwich would pull its goalkeeper in the final minutes of the third period for the extra skater and yielded the empty-net goal with just over a minute remaining. Alayna Toole ’26 sealed the 3-1 victory for the Soaring Eagles as she put the puck into the empty net at the 18:53 mark.
- Making her first start of the season for the Soaring Eagles, goalkeeper Emily Finach ’25 stopped 20 of the 21 shots that she faced to record her first win for Elmira.
