ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women’s ice hockey program will travel to Amherst, Massachusetts, on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles face the Amherst College Mammoths in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2024 NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship. - Tickets will be available for purchase outside Orr Rink one hour before puck drop at 2:00 P.M.
- All ticket sales will be CASH ONLY.
- Ticket prices will be – $6 for adults, $4 for college students with ID, and $3 for seniors/children under 12.
GAME PREVIEW:
- The Soaring Eagles secured their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship following a 3-1 victory over SUNY Cortland on Wednesday inside Alumni Arena. McKenzie Schmidt ’25, Emily Lenzen ’24, and Emma Bradbury ’26 each found the back of the net for the Purple & Gold.
- Saturday’s quarterfinal appearance will be the 15th all-time for the Soaring Eagles, who boast an 8-5 record in those contests since the 2001-02 season. EC last played in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament during the 2021-22 season after defeating Nazareth on the road, 2-1.
- This will be the third meeting in the NCAA Tournament between the Soaring Eagles and Mammoths, who battled for the NCAA DIII Women’s Ice Hockey Championship during the 2008-09 season as Amherst recorded a 4-3 victory in overtime. EC recorded a 3-2 win over Amherst during the 2007-08 quarterfinals.
- Elmira holds an 11-6-1 record in the head-to-head series with the Mammoths as the two programs last played on December 7th, 2019, with Elmira recording a 3-0 victory at the Murray Athletic Center. The Purple & Gold have come away with a victory in each of its last two trips to Orr Rink, winning 2-1 during the 2018-19 season and 4-0 during the 2016-17 season.
- Amherst enters Saturday’s contest having not played a game in eight days after the Mammoth dropped a 2-1 decision at home against Hamilton in the NESCAC Semifinals on March 1st. Amherst (21-3-2) is 10-2-1 at home this season and is averaging 2.4 goals per contest while allowing only 22 goals through 26 contests.
- The Mammoths feature a balanced scoring attack as three players (Rylee Glennon, Maeve Reynolds, and Alyssa Xu) have each recorded at least 20 points this season. Glennon leads the team with 10 goals and 14 assists, while Reynolds also has 14 assists to go along with nine goals. In goal for Amherst, sophomore Natalie Stott is 19-3-2 with a 0.88 goals-against average and nine shutouts through 24 appearances.
