Seven OHL graduates to represent Canada at Spengler Cup Tournament – Ontario Hockey League

Hockey Canada has announced its roster for the upcoming 2022 Spengler Cup that takes place from Dec. 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland. A total of seven OHL alumni will be competing in the oldest club tournament in the world, defending Canada’s 2019 gold medal finish as the tournament returns following a two-year hiatus.

Included on the roster is a former Memorial Cup champion and OHL Goaltender of the Year in Michael DiPietro, currently in the Boston Bruins organization with the ECHL’s Maine Mariners. A former U SPORTS University Cup champion in one-time UNB REDS captain Kris Bennett, a Saginaw Spirit graduate, is also on the squad that will be coached by Travis Green.

Canada is grouped with host HC Davos and HC Sparta Prague for the preliminary round and will open the 2022 Spengler Cup on Dec. 26 at 2:15 p.m. ET/11:15 a.m. PT against HC Sparta Prague. Preliminary-round action wraps up on Dec. 28, with the championship game set for Dec. 31.
