First round pick Angus MacDonell commits to Sting – Ontario Hockey League

by

Sarnia, ON   Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca announced Thursday that the hockey club has signed its 2021 first round (13th overall) selection Angus MacDonell to a Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Standard Player Agreement.

The Toronto-native is eager to begin this new chapter in his hockey journey.

“I am extremely honoured to get to be a part of such an amazing organization. I cannot wait to get down to Sarnia and meet all of my teammates, the staff and fans. I am excited to get to camp and play with such talented players and learn form all the supporting staff. This is an incredible opportunity; one I plan on making the most of,” comments MacDonell.

“It is time for me to put in the work this off season so I can help the Sting compete for an OHL Championship. “Adds the Sting first-round selection.

Prior to the cancellation of the 2020-21 GTHL season MacDonell was poised to captain a very strong Toronto Marlboros U16 team.  During the 2019-20 season, MacDonell’s skill was on full display when he scored 20 times in 27 regular season games while earning his reputation as a hard-to-play-against centre with a high compete level and tremendous leadership qualities.

Seca on welcoming Angus to the Sting organization:

“We are so happy to have had the opportunity to select Angus and equally as thrilled now to be able to officially welcome him and his family to our City and our team.  Thankfully, there were a few opportunities with proper Covid protocols in place to be able to watch Angus skate and he was someone on our radar from our first viewing of him.  He has a high skill level which is equally matched by his character which falls directly in line with our Core Values as an organization.  He will be a player that our fans will love watching play for years to come.”

The Sarnia Sting are eagerly anticipating the beginning of the 2021-22 season and will be announcing 2021 Training Camp details shortly.
