Mitch Young commits to Sting – Ontario Hockey League

Sarnia, ON –  Sarnia Sting General Manager, Dylan Seca announced this morning that the Hockey Club has signed 2005 born defenceman Mitch Young to an Ontario Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.

Originally, a seventh-round selection by the Owen Sound Attack in the 2021 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, The Sting acquired his rights in exchange for a conditional 12th round pick in the 2023 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection.

Standing at 6-foot-1, 171lbs, Young spent the 2021-22 season split between the Waterloo Wolves U18 AAA team and the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). The right shooting Elmira, Ont. native tallied a goal and seven assists through 15 games with the Wolves, in addition to eight goals and 23 assists through 35 games played with the Siskins.

Young, has played 11 games for the OJHL’s Wellington Dukes so far this season, tallying one goal and three assists, that includes an overtime winner Friday night to give the Dukes’ their eighth straight win.

Sting General Manager, Seca comments on today’s signing:

“Mitch has played some very good hockey for the Wellington Dukes to start the season. He is a skilled and competitive player who we are excited to officially start working with. “

Young wore #5 on Sunday in Guelph as he made his OHL debut in a 3-2 shootout win.
