BOSTON, MA – (December 6, 2022) – The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced its Three Stars of the Week following weekend action played December 3-4, 2022. Top performers include forward Kennedy Marchment of the Connecticut Whale, defender Minttu Tuominen of the Metropolitan Riveters, and forward Sydney Brodt of the Minnesota Whitecaps.

First Star: Kennedy Marchment made the most of Connecticut’s first games since opening weekend and helped the Whale earn four of a possible six points in Sept-Îles. The 26-year-old from Marmora, Ontario had a two-point performance on Saturday, setting up Taylor Girard for a shorthanded marker and scoring the team’s third goal in a 4-3 shootout loss to Montreal. The alternate captain also scored Sunday’s game-winning goal on her team-high fifth shot on net as the Whale edged the Force 3-2. This offseason Marchment signed a two-year contract to stay in Connecticut and continue her PHF career that began with MVP honors in 2021-22. Last season the St. Lawrence University graduate led the league in scoring with 33 points in 20 games, helping the Whale capture their first regular season title with a franchise record 15 wins. She currently ranks sixth among all-time PHF skaters with a 1.57 points-per-game average which is tops among active players.

Second Star: Minttu Tuominen was magnificent for Metropolitan this weekend in Minnesota, scoring three power play goals for the Riveters who succeeded on three of their nine opportunities. The goals scored by the 32-year-old from Helsinki, Finland were the first of her PHF career and also the first by a defender from her country. She found the back of the net twice on Saturday in the span of 2:01 to close out the second period and start the third despite a 4-3 loss to the Whitecaps. The former Ohio State University Buckeye buried another lethal shot from the point on Sunday, providing the team’s only goal in a 4-1 defeat. Tuominen serves as an alternate captain for the Riveters and has amassed all four of her points in a three-game streak. Before joining the PHF, the four-time Olympian and three-time bronze medalist split the 2021-22 season in Finland’s Naisten Liiga and Russia’s ZhHL. She’s one of a record 20 international players competing in the PHF this season which includes six from Finland.

Third Star: Sydney Brodt had the best game of her first PHF season on Sunday with a three-point performance that led Minnesota to a 4-1 win over Metropolitan. She picked up the primary assist on the game’s opening goal by Jonna Albers, scored the game-winner early in the third period, and then set up Natalie Snodgrass for an insurance marker on the power play. The win secured the first six-point weekend for the Whitecaps in a series sweep over the Riveters. Brodt is tied for the team lead in scoring with six points including three goals and three assists in six games. The 24-year-old from North Oaks, MN is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth where she was a three-year captain. Now captain of her hometown Whitecaps, the 2019 World Champion member of the U.S. National Women’s Team returned to Minnesota after the 2021-22 season competing in the SDHL where she earned MVP honors with Linköping HC.
