ST. CATHARINES, ON – The Niagara IceDogs are proud to announce the signing of drafted goaltender, Charlie Burns. Burns was drafted by the IceDogs 167th overall in the ninth round of the 2022 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

The 2006-born goaltender was selected out of the Soo U18 AAA Greyhounds program in the Great North U18 League. Last season, the Sault Ste. Marie native only allowed 16 goals in 17 games for a goals-against average of 1.58 and two shutouts between the pipes. During the 2022 postseason, the 6-foot-1 netminder saw 220 minutes of ice time and allowed just six goals for a goals-against average of 1.09.

More recently, Burns began his rookie year with the Blind River Beavers of the NOJHL. In 20 games played this season, the goaltender has a goals-against average of 2.00, a save percentage of .922 and an impressive five shutouts for a 13-3-3 record.

“We are very excited to have Charlie as an IceDog,” said IceDogs general manager Darren DeDobbelaer. “Charlie is having an exceptional year in the NOJHL and we look forward to having him in our organization.”
