There was some unfortunate news that came out of Chicago Blackhawks training camp today.
Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson announced that Artyom Levshunov will be out for another four weeks with a right foot injury.
“If everything goes well with his next (doctor) visit, in the next seven days, he can start skating at least. So, I think he’ll be looking forward to that,” Davidson said via NHL.com. “He’s around the facility. We kind of have to kick him out most days but yeah, he’s super eager to go. He’s pretty disappointed but he’s able to do a lot of other training, so it’s not like he’s sitting around, sedentary, doing nothing.”
The Blackhawks selected Levshunov with the second overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft as he signed his entry-level contract that summer and was set to compete for a spot on the opening night roster.
However Levshunov suffered this leg injury during rookie camp on Sept. 11 and he was sidelined and now we will have to wait for his eventual NHL debut.
The 18-year-old is eager to get back on the ice and start his professional hockey career.
“I just know I see a smiley face in the dressing room every day,” Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said. “He’s a fun guy and loves to be around. He can’t wait to get out there. The trainers will have to wrestle him off until his timeline.”
This past season Levshunov played for Michigan State University where he recorded nine goals, 26 assists and 35 points in 38 games.
