News: Sunday Highlights: BWB lifts T6 to all-Canadian win

by admin

There was more than just one big game on Sunday’s sports schedule as the Toronto Six and Montreal Force wrapped up the Premier Hockey Federation’s first all-Canadian season series.

Montreal Force 1, Toronto Six 2

Breanne Wilson-Bennett faked a shot, deked, then buried her fifth goal of the season at 6:31 of the second period to break a 1-1 tie and lift Toronto to victory over Montreal in another closely contested battle between the league’s Canadian clubs. The win splits the weekend series but gives T6 a third one-goal triumph over their new northern rivals in 2022-23. The game’s other two goals were scored less than a minute apart in the opening frame, first by T6 captain Shiann Darkangelo with her eighth of the year, followed quickly by Force forward Alexandra Labelle with her sixth. Shots were an even 24-24 with both goaltenders turning in strong performances for the second straight day. This time Elaine Chuli came out on the winning side opposite Tricia Deguire. Toronto’s 13th win brings them to within a point of first place Boston with four weeks remaining in the regular season.
