Â
Sault Ste. Marie, ON â Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis is pleased to announce a trio of commitments to the organization today from the 2019 draft class.
Forwards Jordan DâIntino and Tyler Savard along with defenceman Luc Brzustowski have all signed with the Program in advance of the 2021-22 Ontario Hockey League season.
âLooking at our upcoming season, it was important to add Jordan, Luc and Tyler to our program. Each player has been involved throughout the year as we prepped for the 20-21 season and will be an important to our 21-22 campaign, and beyond,â said Greyhounds GM Kyle Raftis.
DâIntino, a native of London, Ont. was drafted by the Hounds in the fourth round of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the London Jr. Knights AAA Minor Midget program.
âJordan is a high-skilled forward who possesses a nice balance of size and skill. He is patient with the puck, has a quick release and can create his own shot offensively. He is also very dangerous down low,â explained Raftis.
Most recently (2019-20) DâIntino appeared in 39 games for the Strathroy Rockets of the GOJHL where he tallied 16 goals and 16 assists (32 points) in 39 games played.
âIâm looking forward to being part of such a good up and coming team. Iâm excited to experience the atmosphere (and hopefully fans) of GFL Memorial Gardens and play in such an incredible hockey town,â said DâIntino.
âThis has been a difficult year for all of us, but Iâve been able to stay committed to training and have never been more ready in my life to play hockey,â he continued.
Brzustowski, who hails from Kitchener, Ont. was drafted by the Hounds in the sixth round of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the Kitchener Rangers AAA Minor Midget Program.
âLucâs a smart, smooth-skating defenceman. He uses this to create offense along with good puck moving instincts. His skating ability enables him to close gaps defensively and compliments a quick transition game,â explained Raftis.
In 2019-20 Brzustowski appeared in 48 games for the Kitchener Dutchmen of the GOJHL where he recorded five goals and three assists (8 points) in 48 regular season games played.
âIâm really excited to get the opportunity to play and become a better hockey player in the Soo. From even just the team Zoom calls weâve had, itâs obvious that the coaches put a lot of time into the program and getting the best out of everyone,â began Brzustowski.
âI am definitely eager to start the season. It will be a big adjustment for me as I havenât played in an actual game in over a year and will be stepping into the league for the first time,â he continued.
âAlthough Iâve only been up to camp once in the Soo, I can tell the fans are passionate about the team and I very much look forward to playing in front of them.â
The son of former Oshawa Generals forward and long-time NHL star Marc Savard, Tyler calls Peterborough, Ont. his hometown. He was selected in the 11th round of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the Peterborough Petes AAA Minor Midget Program.
âTyler is a highly creative, skilled player that excels playing in traffic. He plays a strong puck protection, gritty style of game, and has a sense of elusiveness with the puck. He has the ability to find soft areas on the ice to open up chances for himself and teammates,â commented Raftis.
During 2019-20 Tyler suited up in the Lock City for the Soo Thunderbirds of the NOJHL where he had 19 goals and 31 assists (50 points) in 43 regular season games played.
âIâm excited to sign with the Soo Greyhounds as it has always been a dream to play in the OHL. I have a lot of respect for the organization and itâs history,â started Savard.
âI want to thank everyone who has supported me along the way, especially my family, and I would like to thank Kyle Raftis for believing in me and giving me this opportunity,â he added.
All three are expected to be in Sault Ste. Marie for Training Camp 2021 once details and confirmation on the leagueâs Return to Play is released.
