J-S Giguere is a big fan of Joseph Woll: Leafs Morning Take

by

Only 90 days away from puck drop on the 2024-25 campaign —but who’s counting?

Once again, Carter Hutton filled in for the vacationing Jay Rosehill as co-host on Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing the offseason and how different today’s player is as opposed to even 15-20 years ago. Back in the day, players would ‘train’ by hacking a pack of darts per day, now they barely have any ‘down’ time in their offseason schedules.

After that, we discussed CapFriendly going the way of the dodo bird. Sadly, we’ll still have to talk about the salary cap in Toronto on a weekly basis, but now, the conversation will just be a tad harder to have.

Meantime, we continued to break down the offseason thus far and what else the Leafs could potentially do to better the roster. In a perfect world, we both agreed that they probably need one more defenceman and one more top-six forward —preferably a centre. Furthermore, at this point, a big move is becoming more and more unlikely, so once again, Brad Treliving will have to try his best to nibble around the edges. On top of that, there’s no question that Nick Robertson, Timothy Liljegren, and David Kampf have all been firmly out there as trade bait.

Then, 2003 Conn Smythe Trophy winner/2007 Stanley Cup champ/former Maple Leaf Jean-Sebastian Giguere stopped by the show. We talked about the Woll/Stolarz tandem, the state of goaltending in 2024, if the Leafs can win with the Core Four, and Connor McDavid choosing not to officially accept the Conn Smythe Trophy. Giggy was awesome. He does fantastic work for TVA Sports.

Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin will be my co-host for Friday’s show. I’ll get Matt’s take on everything the Leafs have done over the past few weeks. Also, former Maple Leafs assistant Dave Hakstol will drop by to dish on his time in Toronto.
