NHL Announces 32 Finalists for King Clancy Trophy

The NHL announced on Wednesday the 32 team nominees for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. 

The award is presented to “the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”

The NHL individually picks the representatives for each award, which takes into account community involvement, the influence of others and representing the league in a positive manner. 

The winner will receive a $25,000 donation to a charity of their choice. 

While the award is mostly based on activities outside of the public eye, it’s still something players and teams take seriously. Pekka Rinne won the award in 2021, with a pair of Minnesota Wild players (Jason Zucker in 2019 and Matt Dumba in 2020) taking the two awards before that.
