Golden Knights Sign Defenseman To Entry-Level Contract

by admin

The Vegas Golden Knights have signed Viliam Kmec to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Kmec was invited to the Golden Knights 2024 development camp in July. After a strong showing at both the development camp and the 2024 NHL Rookie Faceoff, Kmec has earned his first professional contract. At the Rookie Faceoff, he scored one goal and three points in three games.

The 20-year-old defenseman played the last three seasons with the Prince Town Cougars in the WHL. During the 2023-24 campaign, he notched nine goals and 34 points in 58 games. He was also a participant at the 2024 World Juniors playing on Team Slovakia, where he recorded four assists in five games.

The 6’2, 214 lbs right-handed defenseman is poised with the puck and smart defensively. He’s become more comfortable using his body and will begin his professional career this season with either the Henderson Silver Knights in the AHL or the Tahoe Knight Monsters in the ECHL in the 2025-26 season. He’ll report back to the Cougars this season.

The defender has worked hard to get to this point of his career and GM Kelly McCrimmon has acknowledged and rewarded him for it.
