The Carolina Hurricanes have been known for their team speed and suffocating play the last few years, which is why GM Eric Tulsky went out and signed the 27-year old Jack Roslovic this summer.
After being traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the New York Rangers at last years NHL trade deadline, the Hurricanes got a dose of the speed game Jack Roslovic can bring when the Hurricanes took on the New York Rangers in their 2nd round matchup in the playoffs season.
Now, a member of the Hurricanes after signing with the team this past July, Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour spoke about how Roslovic stood out in that series against his Canes with Canes’ reporter Walt Ruff last week during camp.
“He can skate. That was the one thing I learned from coaching against him, especially in (May’s playoff series). He really stood out,” Carolina’s bench boss said on Friday. “It was that speed. I didn’t notice it as much before, but for whatever reason, that was there.”
Roslovic will now look to show his new head coach those same attributes, this time in a Hurricanes sweater.
Roslovic is coming off a season in which he only scored 9 goals in 59 games between the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers, his lowest total since the 2018-2019 when he also scored 9 goals for the Winnipeg Jets.
This season Roslovic could and should, be able to produce more for his new team. Currently, Roslovic has been playing with Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Martin Necas. If that is the trio that starts the season, Roslovic will be in good situation to potentially have a career season in Raleigh.

Roslovics’ best season to date in the NHL came in the 2021-2022 season when he scored 22 goals and 45 points for the Jackets. With the loss of 122 points from last season from the Hurricanes lineup with the departures of Jake Guentzel, Teuvo Teravainen, Stefan Noesen and Evgeny Kuznetsov, Roslovic reaching the 20 goal-40 point plateau would certainly help ease the blow.
The Columbus, OH native was drafted 25th overall in the 2015 NHL draft by the Winnipeg Jets and has gone on to play in 445 career games, amassing 80 goals, 141 assists and 221 points.
