Golden Knights’ Depth Forward Claimed Off Of Waivers

by admin

Vegas Golden Knights forward, Zach Aston-Reese has been claimed off of waivers by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Golden Knights signed the 30-year-old winger to a one-year, two-way deal in the offseason. The contract will see him earn $775K at the NHL level and $475K at the AHL level.

Aston-Reese played in three pre-season games for the Golden Knights scoring two goals and three points. He showed flashes of what he can provide the Golden Knights and if he had gone unclaimed, he would have likely been one of the first forwards to be called up when the organization faced any injuries.

With the unfortunate passing of Johnny Gaudreau, the Blue Jackets are in need of finding forwards to replace him. Aston-Reese can provide a young Blue Jackets forward group with veteran experience and a safe defensive play style. He’ll kill penalties and be defensively responsible allowing their young forwards like Adam Fantilli, Kent Johnson and Cole Sillinger to shine offensively.

The Golden Knights did their best on the waiver wire to replace Aston-Reese claiming Cole Schwindt from the Calgary Flames and Raphael Lavoie from the Edmonton Oilers.

The Golden Knights also placed Tanner Laczynski and Jonas Rondbjerg on waivers with Aston-Reese but both forwards went unclaimed.
