Both players came out helmetless, as it became a new tradition across the NHL to have the rookies start warmups without a helmet. Celebrini and Smith had spent a lot of time together leading up to tonight, and their friendship off the ice dripped onto their rookie laps with passes to each other.
Their rookie lap was just the start. During the opening night player introductions, Sharks fans gave each rookie a rousing applause.
Celebrini started the game with Tyler Toffoli and William Eklund.
