It was another tough night for the Buffalo Sabres, as they lost to the Los Angeles Kings by a 3-1 final score. With it, they have now lost each of their first three games in regulation.
It is never good when an NHL club starts the season 0-3-0 season. However, with the Sabres looking to end their 13-year playoff drought, this kind of start is especially frustrating for them.

Based on recent NHL history, it also has a real chance of becoming costly for the Sabres’ playoff chances.
According to Big Head Hockey, only five teams that started at 0-3-0 have made the playoffs in the last decade. The 14 other clubs that started their seasons with three straight regulation losses missed the playoffs.

The Sabres must immediately turn things around to be one of the rare teams to overcome an 0-3-0 record and make the post-season. They undoubtedly have a tough challenge ahead of them for their next game, as they play the Florida Panthers. However, they then play three clubs that also missed the playoffs last season: the Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Chicago Blackhawks.
It will now be interesting to see how the Sabres respond to their very concerning start.
