The Vancouver Canucks celebrated defenceman Tyler Myers’ 1,000th career NHL game with a 3-0 shutout of the Philadelphia Flyers. Nils Höglander, Brock Boeser and Kiefer Sherwood provided the offence, while Kevin Lankinen stopped all 26 shots he faced for his first shutout in a Canucks jersey. The victory was Vancouver’s second in as many games and pushed their record on the season to 2-1-2 through five games.

Not only did Myers skate in his 1,000th career game, but he may have created the play of the night. Midway through the second period, the Canucks defenceman delivered a perfect no-look, between-the-legs pass to Boeser, who scored to make it 2-0. Myers also led the team in ice time at 22:30 and finished the night with three shots and three blocks. Ultimately, Myers was one of Vancouver’s best players on the night, with his strong play having a direct influence on the final score.
When asked about the game post-game, Myers said, “I thought our third was pretty good, actually. They were obviously making a push, but we had some shifts where we did exactly what our game plan was. We want to still hound the puck down low. It’s one of our strengths as a team. I’m not gonna lie; my mind went a little haywire there in the second half of the second. Emotional night, was awesome to get the win.”
Myers also touched on playing in 1000 NHL games, saying, “It means a lot. It’s an awesome milestone. We had a great night tonight, getting the win. We’re developing some momentum as a group here. I hit 1000 games, you know, it makes you realize you’re on the older side, but I’m still having a ton of fun.”
As for Rick Tocchet, he was happy with his team’s overall performance. Tocchet said, “I liked a lot of parts of our game. You know, we’re still learning. Puck management still. I mean, we gave them some opportunities to get back in the game, but I think for the most part. We had some opportunities. We had a lot of odd men rushes that we couldn’t convert. I think we have to work on that stuff. But yeah, 3-0 game, team effort. You take the win and move on and obviously, keep improving certain areas.”
Overall, there were a lot of positives that came out of this game for the Canucks. The trio of Höglander, Elias Pettersson and Conor Garland looked dominant in the offensive end, while Lankinen was able to shut the door for the entire 60 minutes. While there were some chaotic moments, especially in the third, Vancouver was able to bend but not break as they picked up their first regulation win of the season.
