Patrick Marleau Retires from NHL After 23 Seasons

Patrick Marleau has announced his retirement from the NHL at the age of 42.

Marleau, 42, sat out the 2021-22 season after posting nine points in 56 games last year. 

Last season, Marleau became the NHL’s all-time leader in games played with 1,779, breaking Gordie Howe’s record by 12 games. Over his career, Marleau had 566 goals and 1,197 points in 23 years with San Jose, Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Marleau never won any personal hardware but finished third in Lady Byng voting in 2005-06. Marleau, a long-time captain with San Jose, had a career-high of 86 points in 2005-06, with his highest goal count being a 44-goal run in 2009-10.
