Report: Celebrini Could Miss First Matchup Against Canucks

by admin

The news surrounding 2024 first-overall pick Macklink Celebrini is not great. According to The Hockey News’ Max Miller, who covers the San Jose Sharks, General Manager Mike Grier told reporters today “not to expect an update on Celebrini’s injury status for at least two weeks.” Celebrini was injured in his NHL debut on October 10 and has missed the Sharks last five games with a lower-body injury.

The timeline of Celebrini’s injury is significant as it means he could miss his first opportunity to play against his hometown team. On November 2, the Vancouver Canucks are scheduled to take on San Jose at the SAP Center, which would have been Celebrini’s first chance to play against the team he grew up cheering for. While the injury timeline isn’t exact, the matchup is less than two weeks away, meaning he could miss the game.

Celebrini’s past love of the Canucks is no secret. His brother, Aiden, is a prospect in the organization, while Macklin himself was seen at Game 7 of Vancouver’s second-round series against the Edmonton Oilers. Celebrini, who is from North Vancouver, played some of his youth hockey in B.C., which included time with the North Shore Winter Club.

Vancouver concludes their four-game road trip on Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Last season, the Canucks swept the Blackhawks, winning all three of their matchups. The game is part of what the NHL is calling “Frozen Frenzy,” as all 32 teams will be in action. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:15 pm P.T. from the United Center.
