Ottawa Senators Recall Leevi Merilainen, Assign Reinhardt & Highmore To Belleville

The Ottawa Senators have recalled goaltender Leevi Merilainen from Belleville, it was announced Tuesday.

In a corresponding move, Ottawa assigned forwards Cole Reinhardt and Matthew Highmore to Belleville.

Drafted by the Senators in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Merilainen has appeared in three games for Belleville so far this season, posting a 2-1-0 record, a 3.47 GAA and a .852 SV%. In his two career NHL appearances, he has posted a 0-1-1 record, a 4.23 GAA and a .878 SV%.

A product of Calgary, Alta., Reinhardt didn’t get into a game with Ottawa but has posted two goals and five points through three games with Belleville. A 2020 sixth round pick of the Sens, Reinhardt has appeared in one career NHL game but did not register a point.

The last player involved in the transaction, Highmore has not played in a game this season due to injury. During the 2023-24 season, he appeared in seven games for Ottawa, posting two assists while collecting 31 points in 43 games for Belleville.
