Brayden Schenn says the Blues are fired up to play Craig Berube for the first time: Leafs Morning Take

It’s back to the drawing board for Craig Berube and company.

Can someone say reality check?

At any rate, we kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing a variety of different topics. First and foremost, the NBA season tipped off Tuesday night, which meant we had some brand new LeBron James content for Rosey to breakdown. I love this one-sided rivalry. Rosey’s disdain for LeBron is hilarious.

After that, we got back to the Leafs. Oliver Ekman-Larsson was fined $5,000 for his hit on Jake Guentzel Monday night. Naturally, Rosey had some thoughts on that. Then, we got into some Matthew Knies talk. According to a source, while lines of communication are always open, it’s unlikely that we see an extension handed out anytime soon. For my money, we’ll probably have to wait for next summer for that.

Courtesy of Square, we broke down the ugly 6-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. From the onset, the Leafs looked flat and fatigued. They had zero juice. They looked tired physically and mentally. No one played well. And that includes Dennis Hildeby, who I thought was fighting it all night long. If there was a positive, it was that Nick Robertson finally scored. After his strong preseason, he’s had zero bounces go his way in the early going. We’ll see if this leads to something. Whatever, though. We didn’t overreact to the blowout loss. That said, I wouldn’t be lying if I said it didn’t bring back some PTSD from the Sheldon Keefe era.

All the Leafs can do now is look ahead to Thursday night’s home date with St. Louis. Speaking of which, thanks to Charm Diamond Centres, Blues captain Brayden Schenn stopped by for another visit. In addition to talking about his brother Luke recently hitting the 1000 game plateau, we also got Brayden’s mindset as his team prepares to take on their former head coach for the first time. As per usual, he was a lot of fun.

Looking forward to the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take (11 AM ET). Join us as we preview the Craig Berube revenge game. Also, we’ll play some Take It Or Leaf It.
