Shutouts have become the name of the game for the New York Islanders in 2024-25. Unfortunately, they’ve been on the wrong end.
After failing to find the back of the net on Wednesday night, a 2-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Islanders hit a historic low.

For the first time in their franchise’s history, they’ve been shut out in four of their first 10 games (40%).
With four shutouts coming in October, that’s the most in a month since matching that in November of 2011.

Last season, the Islanders were shut out seven times in 82 games (8.53%).
Four of the seven shutout losses came during Patrick Roy’s 37 games behind the bench (10.81%) after he took over for Lane Lambert on Jan. 20.

With the four shutouts this season, the Islanders have now been shut out in 17.02% of games that Roy has coached during the regular season.
In these games, the Islanders have averaged 31 shots on goal per game, allowing 23.5.
The power play is 0-for-7, while the penalty kill has been a perfect 4-for-4, only taking penalties in three of the games.
Each Islanders’ goaltender has been shut out twice.
Semyon Varlamov has turned aside 48 of 51 shots, a .941 SV%, in two games, a 3-0 shutout defeat to the Dallas Stars, and then the 2-0 loss to Columbus.
Ilya Sorokin has stopped 39 of 41, a .951 SV%, losing 1-0 to the St. Louis Blues and 1-0 to the Detroit Red Wings.
You can’t win games if you can’t score goals, no matter how good your goalie plays.
