Two former San Jose Sharks were placed on waivers by their respective teams today. The Toronto Maple Leafs waived Matt Benning, and the Colorado Avalanche waived Kaapo Kahkonen.

Benning was traded to Toronto on Oct. 30, along with two draft picks. The Sharks acquired former first-round pick defenseman Timothy Liljegren.
The Maple Leafs reportedly wanted to do the right thing for Benning and flip him to another team. They felt he was still a quality NHL player but had no space for him.

Kahkonen was waived by the Winnipeg Jets early in the season and was claimed by the Avalanche. The former Sharks goalie played one game in the NHL on Oct. 30 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He gave up four goals on 20 shots.
