The San Jose Sharks announced they have recalled goaltender Yaroslav Askarov from the San Jose Barracuda
The 22-year-old has a 6-3 record with a .939 SV%, 1.92 GAA and two shutouts in the AHL this season.
Askarov was acquired for forward David Edstrom, goaltender Magnus Chrona, and a conditional 2025 first-round draft pick in an August trade with the Nashville Predators.
He proceeded to sign a two-year contract that pays him $2 million annually through the 2025-26 season.
The 11th overall pick in the 2020 draft, Askarov has a 1-1 record with a .914 SV% and 2.57 GAA in three career NHL appearances.
With an injury to Vitek Vanecek there is a decent chance we see Askarov make his Sharks debut on the team’s upcoming road trip.
Askarov has been one of the best goalies in the AHL over the past two seasons and represented the Central Division at the 2023 and 2024 AHL All-Star Game.
