Devils’ Casey Could Make His NHL Debut Oct. 4 Against The Buffalo Sabres

Due to the injuries to Brett Pesce, Luke Hughes, and Santeri Hatakka, there is an opening on the New Jersey Devils’ blue line that will need to be filled.

Seamus Casey has a great opportunity amidst all the injuries while he is in Prague with the team.

Amanda Stein of NHL.com has reported that it sounds like head coach Sheldon Keefe may put Casey in the lineup on Friday against the Buffalo Sabres to play in his NHL debut.

This opportunity may open the door to him filling the hole on the back end until Pesce and/or Luke Hughes return.

Casey, 20, played for the University of Michigan last season and did not disappoint. In 40 games, he had seven goals, 38 assists, and 45 points. This season, if given a long look, he could prove that he is ready to be a full-time NHL for the Devils.

The only concern that the Devils would have would be burning a year of his ELC early if they could try and avoid it. However, it looks like Casey will be suiting up for his first NHL game of his young, promising career on Friday, Oct. 4, against the Sabres in Prague.
